    Roma Downey Interview

Marlene interviews Roma Downey on Joy 1250 AM RadioPlease listen on Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 at 3:00pm on JOY 1250 AM Radio for Marlene’s interview with Roma Downey, a superb actress and best known for her character ‘Monica’ on the legendary TV show, “Touched by an Angel”.

I think I have watched every episode of “Touched By An Angel” ever aired on TV, so when I had the opportunity to interview Roma for a special program for JOY 1250 AM Radio, I was very excited.  Roma was my favorite character as ‘Monica’ because she truly played her part as an angel so convincingly with her sweet Irish accent.  Back then, I often wondered if she was anything like her angelic part in real life and discovered years later through this interview that she truly is.

I also really enjoyed the her TV miniseries, ‘The Bible’ and I guess I wasn’t the only one! 31 million viewers tuned in on the opening night. One of the highest rated programs ever aired on “The History Network”. To start the interview off, my first question to Ms. Downey on ‘The Bible’ was about the epic proportion of the  film, specifically, why was the  theatrical film version not  released for wide screen?  She then spoke of  the many hours of filming that went into the making of;  ‘The Bible’ and how  she and her husband, Mark Burnett (the king of reality TV)  had felt while presenting the stories weekly on television and how they would provide the most appropriate way for the story  from Genesis to Revelations to unfold, which, in and of itself, was a challenge.

One of many interesting aspects revealed in our interview was how Ms. Downey had persued  Diogo  Morgado (who she had seen on film and who she had searched the country to make contact with him to portray the role of,  Jesus), only to discover the Portuguese actor was visiting California and was literally with in minutes of her home when she did make contact.

‘The Bible’  TV was eventually nominated for three Emmy Awards for best TV mini series and sound mixing.

Additionally, I learned through the interview that Roma Downey and her husband, Mark Burnett are currently working on a new project. It will be a three hour theatrical film focusing on; ‘The resurrection of Christ’.

Recording an interview can at times, hold its challenges. On occasion, one challenge I encounter is to very quickly overcome a short time limitation to develop a strong rapore with a guest. In the case of Roma however, there ended being no concern as she was very genuine and warm so my rapore with her was instantaneous and also came quite naturally. The biggest challenge that I did face however (from a post-production producer perspective), was in transforming the actual eleven minutes of the recorded interview into a thirty minute radio program.
